Raudbua

I've just got back from the new super crag at Raudbua (see pic). So far I've bolted the central crackline which looks like it will be a superb route. The walk into raudbua is getting more and more boggy, this could be my introduction week project. If I get a lorry load of nice flat stones dropped off at the start of the path then the first years can carry them in and lay them down. I reckon we could carry in about 400 stones, that would make a big difference. If we did this every year then in about 5 years time there would be a raelly nice path. Students and haugland clients could then enjoy the environment as they walk along the nice dry path as opposed to hating it as walk through knee deep mud. Sign me up for greenpeace.

Your idea is so interesting and realistic as well. I think you should try this to your first year students once to see how it works.

Actually there is already a pile of stones at the very beginning of Raudbua path, on the right, that I asked Vidar's team to be carried and unloaded there on several occasions by tractor. Our quarry was on the "upper road", look below the cliffy part. We (SerEn) worked to make the Raudbua path less soggy-boggy during 4 Earth Days, on quite a few Monday sessions in previous years (not this year, though), and on one Fjaler day session. We have carried the stones (in my free estimate, about 100) and we dug all those ditches (following Vidar's instructions) to drain the water away from the path - which worked nicely. The Raudbua path would be much wetter witghout that. We found out that the flat stones do not work so well, because they easily sink and get covered by bog. The fat stones with one flat surface are the best, or flat stones can be mounted on top of fat ones. We even carried and used a wasted telegraf log for that (doesn't not sink).... It was all called Draining of the Raudbua Path and it was one of the main objectives of SerEn - written on w3 site and presented quite a few times on the College meetings. I didn't manage to get more then three staff interested or even informed about that (obviously!), so over last 5 years it didn't get finished. Besides what has been done already needs maintaining. So, go ahead, I'll support this reinvention of yours wholeheartedly, becasue the job needs to be done, with hordes of kids stampeding over it all the time. And please forgive me for a tiny bit of bitterness, here. Btw - I really do enjoy reading your blogging ;-)
